Photography is an art and one must have the flair for it to become a professional. If you have already decided upon making passion for clicking pictures your career then you must acquire some information about it before embarking on the journey. There are several kinds of jobs for photographers and you must select the best area wherein you can show your expertise. A photographer’s ability to capture the best image and give the subject a whole new angle to make it out of the ordinary, is what it takes to be a good professional. Drawing attention to different aspects of the subject, by blurring certain parts of a photo, or emphasizing the background, differentiates a particular image into different categories. Each photographer has his or her own field of expertise. You can undertake tertiary vocational education in each of the categories mentioned below.

Portrait Photographers: These are professionals who specialize in taking pictures in special family events. They take individual or group pictures and usually have their own studios to work in.

Commercial and Industrial: These photographers specialize in clicking pictures of buildings, merchandise, artifacts, landscapes, so on and so forth. In this field you can earn a lot as such pictures are continuously in demand and are extensively utilized in media, books, magazines, advertisements and catalogues. Industrial photographers don’t hunt for a prospective buyer; rather they are hired in advance to work on a particular assignment wherein he has to capture pictures of machinery, products, workers and other officials. These pictures serve a particular purpose like – assisting in an engineer’s analysis project, publicity, or for covering other industrial information.

Field of Science: The use of photography in the field of science is very necessary. It helps in recording scientific data and procedures. When working in the field of science it is necessary that the photographer must have knowledge in one or more branches of science. This will help them to identify a situation where in a digital image record would be required and work accordingly.

Photojournalism: Photojournalists are in huge demand today, what with media entering every field of action. Such photographers are expected to cover pictures of people or incidents that are newsworthy. The pictures that they capture should be of high quality and should be self explanatory. These pictures should be complete in themselves to tell their own story. Such photographers cover political, social, entertainment or sports events for journals, newspapers, magazines, news channels, and many more.

The field of photography has certain working conditions, which may vary from one field or organization to another. For example, news photographers are mostly on the run, working on short notice and at long, irregular hours. There are some who work part time, and the ones who have their own studios can work as long as they work, whenever they want, and they also have the liberty of choosing their own projects.
